TikTok Marketing for Beginners

Is TikTok marketing right for you? Maybe! I recently wrote a post introducing TikTok to those that might never have heard of it – which seems impossible at this point. The application has truly taken the world by storm in recent months. It’s one of the world’s fastest-growing applications and has plenty of potential for marketers, but how? Isn’t TikTok just for “young” people? Nope.

Most business owners haven’t taken the time to figure out how TikTok can work as a marketing tool. This is because they think the only people using the application are high school and college students. Surprisingly enough, the fact is that nearly 38% of TikTok’s users within the United States are older than 30. So, if you aren’t using TikTok as a marketing tool, maybe you should. But, where do you begin? Let’s break it down.

Create Interesting Content

TikTok marketing involves creating content, but that should come as no surprise. To be successful on TikTok, you have to create fun and exciting content. If you can do that, you’re one step closer to success. People are more likely to watch and engage with your videos if they’re fun, resulting in the algorithm putting your content in front of more people. This is pretty typical for most social media platforms.

To create fun content, think about questions your clients or customers ask you and try to answer those in a creative way. You can also brainstorm ideas from your ideal keywords through a search engine optimization (SEO) tool like Ubersuggest. Although your videos might be informational, that doesn’t mean they have to be boring. You can use viral sounds and trends on TikTok and use those to your advantage.

Use the Right Hashtags

You need to perfect your TikTok marketing strategy. To do so, turn to what you do for other platforms. Just like most social media platforms, if you want people to find your content on TikTok, you need to put some thought into the SEO. This just means you’re optimizing your content so it’s found by people when they’re using the search feature on the platform. The easiest way to go about this is by using relevant hashtags whenever you post a video. You can also “cheat” the system a bit by using trending hashtags so that you’re more likely to appear in more searches.

Partner With Other Creators

If you find that you’re struggling to build a following on TikTok, you might want to think about partnering with relevant creators. So, if you’re in the digital marketing niche, you may want to create videos with other people within this field that have more followers. When you find someone who looks like they’d be a good fit, send them a short, friendly message letting them know you’re interested in partnering. Just know that this might take some time to work, but don’t give up!

TikTok Ads

TikTok marketing is now much easier with the new advertising feature on the platform. One of the benefits of TikTok ads is you don’t have to spend a lot of time building an audience. You set up an ad campaign and you’ll be able to reach your target audience – often within 24 hours. The platform currently offers five different types of ads:

1. TopView

2. Brand Takeover

3. In-Feed Ads

4. Branded Hashtag Challenge

5. Branded Effects

A lot of small businesses find in-feed ads get the best results. Plus, the other ad products are typically only open to companies that have sizable advertising budgets.

TikTok Marketing For You

TikTok isn’t like the other social media platforms on offer, so it might be a while before you understand how TikTok works if you’re used to platforms like Facebook and LinkedIn. However, TikTok can be a great way to reach an audience fast. Once you understand how to create fun and interesting content, TikTok can often work as a successful marketing channel. So, is TikTok marketing right for you? If you’ve got a brand, it’s definitely worth a shot.
