Even though you own your own company doesn’t mean you have to do everything yourself. You don’t have to design your own logo or build your own website. There are professionals who went through many years of school so they can help turn your dreams into reality (without having a mental breakdown). But one thing most small business owners choose to do on their own is write blog posts. I get it. You know your business and your industry better than anyone else, so why wouldn’t you write your own blog posts? But there’s no shame in hiring someone to write content for you and here’s why:
You’re running a business
Last time I checked, business owners weren’t just sitting around with their feet kicked up, daydreaming about what to post on their blog for the week. No. They are constantly out meeting with customers, supervising staff, managing payroll, emailing or calling prospective clients, networking and God knows what else. It’s completely understandable that you don’t have time to put together a well written, meaningful blog post for your website. Don’t let your blog fall by the wayside because you are so busy. Find a freelance writer or go through a marketing agency and pay someone to write for you. They can meet with you once a month to throw around ideas about topics to feature. All you have to do is provide some industry insight to make sure the posts are technically accurate and you’re done! Don’t feel like paying someone? Ask around your office and see if anyone knows someone looking to write content for experience or college credit.
You’re not a writer
Some people just really don’t like to write. Whether they think their content isn’t creative, witty or thought- provoking enough, it doesn’t matter. You can’t force people to write if they don’t want to. But here’s the catch. You need to be blogging. It’s essential for your business. It helps establish you as a thought leader in your industry and helps drive people to your website. I can’t tell you how many times I have gone to a company’s website and looked for a blog and found nothing. Zero, zilch, nada. A company that has a blog with only two posts from three years ago is better than no blog at all. Don’t let the fact that you’re not a writer keep you from starting to blog. I could go on and on about all of the reasons you should be blogging, or you could just read this blog post.
Don’t let the thought of writing blog posts make you want to stab yourself in the eye with a pen (was that too dramatic?). As a business owner, you’ve got more important things to focus on. Hire a writer to get content on your blog for you. They will do all of the heavy lifting, while you focus on making customers happy, bringing in revenue and expanding your business.
