I had a chance to catch up with Ann Fisher of HR Alternative Consulting, Inc and talk about some of the challenges small business owners face with regard to HR compliance.She believes PEOPLE are your most valuable asset. And she provides resources to increase productivity, retention and avoid costly legal issues.

One of the issues we talked about at length were the rules surrounding exempt and non exempt status for employees.  Many employers make the mistake of  paying employees on a salary to avoid paying overtime. The problem, is if the employees don’t qualify, the owner may be libel for back payroll if they are audited.
