I am always on the look out for ways to simplify my life.  In the past few months I have cancelled cable television and replaced it with an antenna & a hulu plus membership, I have automated all my bills with online bill pay, & most recently I have streamlined my follow-up process with online leads.  But, none of these changes compares to what I did 3 weeks ago…

phone imageWhile in the middle of reading The 4-Hour Workweek by Timothy Ferriss I literally stopped reading and implemented his email productivity tip right away.  I changed my iPhone setting from push email to manually fetch email.
With multiple email accounts coming to my phone I used to get notified of new email at least a few times per hour.  If you’re anything like me… you just have to read the email as soon as you get it!  This simple switch saves me time everyday.  No longer do I let an email marketer or spam interrupt my day.
By making the switch to manually checking my email; it puts me back in control of my time.  I am able to focus on the task at hand. (Now if I could just stop those pesky text messages)

So, give it a shot as the new year begins… set your email so you have to check it manually.

This week, I carried the philosophy over to my desktop mail application and I’m loving it!
