Creative Video Content Ideas for Social Media
Editor’s Note on June 9, 2020: While this post was written in 2017, these video content ideas still reign true today. Some additional details have been added – the updated notes appear in bold, italic text below.
If you’ve read my blogs before, then you will know that one thing I continue to talk about is creating a personality for your brand through the content you generate. One very important way you can do that is through creative video content. By purchasing Oculus Rift (one of the most advanced virtual reality sets), Facebook demonstrated how much they are investing in virtual and augmented reality. So what does this mean? Well, it shows that Facebook thoroughly believes in a future with more visual content and a future that has us embedded in this digital ecosystem.
In 2016, we saw video go full steam ahead and it has not slowed down at all for 2020. Videos are going to keep on expanding and will be a major part of a company’s identity and how they market themselves. In the world of content and information overload, video is very digestible. Not everyone is going to have time to read your blog or scroll through your whole website to find out who you are. Instead, you can have these short-form videos to really help personify your brand and get messages across quickly. Or, for people that are already loyal to your brand, you can make longer videos that can help visually explain more complex issues. More than anything, it can help your company be fun and creatively show off your brand.
Live Video
One of the most popular ways to create a quick and easy video for your company is through live video. All of the major social media platforms have a way of broadcasting live to your community. Now which one you use, really just depends where your community is most focused. Facebook’s algorithm has changed multiple times over the years and now more than ever Facebook Live has become a major priority.
We record a live video on Facebook every single Monday. Our weekly Facebook Live show, Monday at the ‘Peg, began with Lorraine at the helm having quick marketing conversations with Sam and other members of the team. We’ve covered topics like cheese, pets, and other fun things.
There are many different ways that you can make creative live videos. One example is having a simple Q&A with your community. Have questions ready that you have received beforehand or answer live questions on the spot from your audience. This provides a fun way to teach your community about something they may not know but also helps you get a better understanding of them at the same time.
Another example is to show off a creative process. If you are a bakery, show the behind the scenes of making a cake. Maybe interview your head chef while showing off the process of baking one of your products. Or have a series of live videos that show off different ways to use your product. There are unlimited ideas of what you can do, just stick to your brand and make it fun for your community. You want this to be something that they engage with and share with their friends.
Make it Fun
Some of the best apps right now for creatively showing off your company are Hyperlapse and Boomerang. A Hyperlapse is perfect to show off a long project of something being built. If you are a contractor installing a floor, set up the Hyperlapse app and let it sit as you work. In the end you have an awesome video of the hour-long install compressed into a short little video. Boomerang is another example of making everyday moments more fun and exciting. It allows you to create captivating mini videos that loop back and forth, to make the most ordinary moments seem more interesting. Both are fun ways to create engaging content and both are free to download.
Demos and Tutorials
Now that you have shown off your brand and a person understands your company, use longer formatted videos to demonstrate your products. You can do this in a live video or spend more time to make a more polished and professional-looking video. Either way, this is a great way to make your product or service stand out from the competition or teach the audience what they are getting before they make that final purchase.
For example, Tasty videos do really well on social media. One of the best things about these type of videos is that there’s no need for an explanation or a voice over. These videos are approachable which gives the viewer the idea that they too can create something special!
Look at this technology as another avenue to communicate with your community. So even though you may already have many wonderful written blogs about a certain topic or a page on your website that describes a certain process, not everyone has time to read these or will ever see them. Videos are easy-to-digest forms of entertainment which makes it easy for viewers to stop and watch a quick video. Like I said before, with content overload on the Internet, not everyone has the time to sit down and read your blog. I’ll be lucky enough if you made it this far through my blog without becoming distracted.
