When I was a kid, I thought there was something magical about February 29th. I had a friend who was born on February 29th, and she only had a birthday every four years. I wondered if she would live longer or age slower then the rest of us.
As I grew up, I never lost the fascination with Leap Year. I loved the idea that you had an “extra day,” that you could use it to accomplish something more, something special or something great. So this morning as I woke up, I wondered what could I do with this day? What could I do to make the special? What could I do that would really add value to my day, week or year?
Should I use the time to reconnect with a few prospects and sell something or finish a project to close the month out with a bang? Maybe I could use the time to write a series of blog posts, or maybe I should just call a friend, go to lunch and take the afternoon off.
In the end, I decided the real benefit of having an extra day is realizing that every day counts. Every day we have the opportunity to do something special or great. So as you head out today, make time to do something special. And while you are at it, do something special tomorrow, and the day after and the day after that. Because every day is an “extra day.”
