Yesterday, Allison wrote a blog post about using what you read to fuel what you write.  As I read her draft, I started to think about how long it had been since I had taken the time to read a book.  Sure, I read all the time, articles, magazines, blogs, but a book?  It has been a few months and for someone who likes reading as much as I do, that’s strange.  Yes, I have been busy, but I seem to be making time for TV, so it is time to make time for a few books.  But what should I put on my reading list?

I posted the question on my Facebook page on Sunday afternoon, looking for some suggestions for light reading and the responses surprised me because they ranged from Vonegut and The  the Art of War (not exactly light) to The Last Days of Summer and Nine Kinds of Naked. In just a few hours, I had a list of suggestions which will take me all summer to get through.

This is what social media is about. It isn’t just selling and business. Sometimes it is just taking minute to answer a question from a friend.  When you take a few minutes to engage in the non business conversations, you attract more followers, fans and friends who see you as a whole person.   Successful brands and small businesses find a way to balance personal and business.

So the question is, what are you reading this summer?
