Thirty years ago, when I started my career ( wow I sound old when I say that – feel free to jump in and tell me I don’t look that old) But I digress ( us old folks do : ) )
Anyway, thirty years ago we believed “Knowledge was Power”. The more information you had inside the corporate structure the more “power you had”. Knowledge gave you authority and credibility when you spoke, but somewhere along the line that has changed; at least according to Graham Jones the creator of the Credibility Pyramid
Jones argues that to be a Credible Speaker you have four elements:
- Knowledge
- Focus
- Enthusiasm
- Care and Concern
Problogger Darren Rose suggest these same four elements are critical to blogging success as well. I have to agree, the world is filled with lots of smart, boring people who simply don’t hold my attention, when they are speaking or writing. Why? Because I feel they are speaking to hear themselves speak, rather than to share information and a conversation, and I would rather have a mutually interesting conversation any day!
So what do you think? How do you make your blog more conversational, more inviting to others? How do you add a bit of spark to your writing?
