Tom Now, writing for StartUp Nation wrote an interesting post about the 20 hottest Internet Marketing Trends for 2009.   Now almost two months into the year, I thought it would be interesting to take a closer look.  So from time to time,  I am going to take a look at some of the trends, and talk about how some of our clients are using them to grow in 2009

Trend #1: Recession Marketing – Tom Said:

Expect a lot of marketing messaging related to the recession. Don’t be surprised to see lots of offers that “save you money” throughout the year. With fewer purchasing dollars available, how will your marketing message be distinctive and stand out?

This goes hand in hand with Trend # 12  Back-to-Basics Marketing

Expect less fluff in 2009, and more marketing messages about how companies solve problems for their customers. Be sure that you understand how your business solves real-world problems, and then clarify that in your marketing messaging.

What are we seeing?  A lot of creativity.  For example: Dr. Jeremey Ciano of RevolutionEyes is offering free eye exams for moms.  Why?  When the economy crunches, moms traditonally neglect their health in favor of their children.  Now they don’t have too.

Crew Property Improvement – Focusing more attention on their maintenance contracts – Why?  People are more likely to keep things running longer.  In recessions they are less likely to want new.  Tune-ups promoting longer running times on appliances, etc hit an emotional chord.

What are you doing to leverage the products you offer which are most attractive during a recession?
