Pinterest has been around for over 7 years now and we have seen quite the evolution in its short life span. From your favorite recipes to the latest trends in fashion, Pinterest is a great place to show off your products and inspire others. If you haven’t used Pinterest in a couple of years or are new to the platform, there are some new features that your business should be using.

Pinterest Videos

Video has become so popular over the last year, it was only a matter of time before Pinterest took advantage of the latest trend. When scrolling through Pinterest, it’s easy to quickly scroll through and pass all of the great pins. The new video format creates a way to make your content stick out from the rest. Pinners have a huge appetite for video: 75% say they’re likely to watch videos about topics that interest them, compared to 55% of people on other platforms.

Right now the native video player feature – that can be seen in the video below – is only available on IOS. But with 80% of Pinterest’s traffic coming from mobile devices, it will only be a matter of time before this feature is on all mobile devices.

Pinterest Advertising

What is great about Pinterest Advertising is that it looks and feels natural. Pinterest ads blend right in with the other pins. This is often hard to achieve on Facebook or Instagram without feeling intrusive or click baity. That is why Pinterest ads do so well. If you don’t have a big following yet, you can get right in front of the right audience with your targeted pin. Whether your goal is to build your brand, increase in-store sales, drive online actions or boost traffic, there are a number of benefits from these ads.

Just like their native video player that I talked about above, Pinterest has also included video in their promoted pins. Pinterest recommends making these ‘storytelling’ videos or ‘how-to’ videos. Storytelling videos for highlighting brand attributes, sharing news or launching products and how-to videos to help people learn more about how a product works or how to incorporate an idea into their own lives.

What also makes Pinterest advertising different is that your pins last forever. Even after you have promoted your pin, the re-pins and saved pins will live on in other feeds and continue to gain additional sales and new customers.

Buy It Button

Back in 2015, Pinterest initiated a new “Buy it” button. Since then, we have seen more and more companies using Pinterest to sell their product right in the app. These “Buy It” buttons eliminate a step in the buying process and help increase impulse purchases.

Pinterest Analytics

This last bit is what helps round out all of these new features and also improves your business. All marketers love their data and so should you. Data is where you can see which content is working and keep improving on that. This is a very powerful tool that you need to make sure you have in your marketing arsenal.

Pinterest continues to evolve and may be one of the main platforms used to market your business. It used to be a platform predominantly used by woman, but recent trends show an uptick in men users. Pinterest is no longer a one-sided platform and instead is a platform that many businesses should be looking at in 2017. If you are not sure if your company should use Pinterest, Roundpeg is a strategy company, we can help you plan your online marketing.
