Social media opens up a wealth of possibilities for small not for profit associations and community groups. With access to a computer and some time they can spread their messages to a large community of friends, supporters and donors.  We have had a number of conversations on More than a Few Words with experts willing to share some tips with our listeners. All sorts of companies and associations need marketing support, not just consumer products. So how do you approach marketing for community events and social causes? This week we spoke to  Steven Shattuck, the communications director for the Irvington Halloween Festival, about their marketing activities. Steve shared his perspective on how non profit associations and community events can use social media and video to build excitement and involvement in their event.

Alex Keys, Americorps*VISTA Resource Development Specialist, is a graduate from Transylvania University in Lexington, KY. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy with minors in music and writing/rhetoric/communication. During his year of service, Alex has worked to increase the capacity of  School on Wheels’ resource and fundraising programs.
